The phenomena of nucleation of CO2 crystals in LNG was observed during tests with a pilot plant producing LNG out of Biogas, The pressure in the vessel containing Liquefied Natural Gas was reduced slightly, which resulted in the top layer of the liquid biogas becoming super-saturated with respect to CO2. Seconds later, tiny particles (crystals) were formed in the clear LNG, When the pressure was reduced further, the liquid started to boil.
Top view with endoscope, which is fitted in topflange of vacuum insulated vessel.
Video was made with modified GoPro camera, fitted with C-mount adapter on endoscope, designed to withstand cryogenic temperature of -160°C and 5 barg
